Established in 2006, the Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO) has become one of Asia's largest math contests. Starting with just 155 participants, SASMO now attracts more than 20,000 participants from 19 countries as of 2016. Over 100 schools from Singapore alone took part in the competition that year.SASMO’s mission is to provide a platform for students to showcase their mathematical abilities while improving their problem-solving and higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). The competition uniquely combines school-level math with Olympiad-level questions, ensuring participants have familiar and challenging problems that stimulate their intellectual growth. This balanced approach enables students to unlock their inner mathematician while achieving success in school mathematics and beyond.SASMO caters to the top 40% of the student population, encouraging students to explore mathematical intuition, logical reasoning, creativity, and critical thinking. By participating, students enhance their mathematical skills and develop a lifelong passion for problem-solving.
