CREST Mathematics Olympiad

The CREST Mathematics Olympiad (CMO) is an annual international online competition open to students from Kindergarten (KG) to Grade 10. Conducted by CREST Olympiads, it aims to hone students’ mathematical aptitude, problem-solving ability, and analytical thinking skills. With its well-structured syllabus and globally recognized framework, the CMO helps students measure their competencies against their peers worldwide.

Key Highlights 

Eligibility: Open to students in Grades KG–10 from any recognized board (CBSE, ICSE, IB, State Boards, or international equivalents).

Exam Mode: Completely online, with objective-type questions

Levels:

Level 1 – Open to all eligible candidates.
Level 2 – Students who meet the minimum qualifying criteria in Level 1. 
Exam Duration:
KG: 45 minutes
Grades 1–10: 60 minutes
Question Types: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) divided into two sections:

Practical Mathematics .  (core syllabus)

Achievers Section (higher-order thinking questions) 

Exam Structure and Pattern 

Practical Mathematics: Focuses on foundational to advanced-level topics depending on the grade.

Achievers Section: Contains higher-order thinking (HOT) questions from the same topics in Section 1.

The CREST Mathematics Olympiad syllabus is aligned with major international boards. While the exam is more challenging than standard school tests, the topics remain consistent with the respective grade’s curriculum. Here’s a breakdown:

Syllabus for KG 

Comparison Concepts: Big–Small, Front–Back, Full–Empty, Heavy–Light, In–Out, More–Less, Right–Left, Same–Different, Tall–Short, Thick–Thin, Top–Bottom

Numbers:

  • Number names (1–50) 
  • Before, After, and Between Numbers (1–20) 
  • Skip Counting (2s and 5s)

Playing with Numbers: 

  • 1-digit addition and subtraction
  • Using >, <, and = signs 

Time: Days of the week, Months in a year

Shapes: Square, Rectangle, Triangle, Circle, Oval, Sphere, Cone, Cube, Cylinder

Who can appear for the CMO? 

All students in Grades KG–10 worldwide are eligible to participate.

Can students register individually?

Yes. If your school is not conducting the exam, you can register on the CREST Olympiads website.

Is the Level 2 syllabus different from Level 1? 

The syllabus remains the same, but the difficulty and depth of questions increase in Level 2.

How much is the exam fee?

India: INR 225

Outside India: Country-specific (generally around USD $15).


Are calculators allowed?

No. Students should solve questions without external aids such as calculators.


How do I prepare effectively?

Focus on understanding each concept thoroughly, practice multiple sample papers, and revise regularly.
